-Inaugurates New Exco, led by Opara

The Owerri Zone Apex socio cultural organization, Olu Owerri has condemned in the strongest terms the planned reception for Governor Hope Uzodinma by those they describe as self serving APC members of Owerri zone extraction, describing such move as a slap on the face of the people of Owerri zone who have been denied the right of governing the state in the last twenty one years of the current democratic dispensation. 

The group stated this through the National President, Chief Martin Opara,shortly after New executive members  were inaugurated on Saturday, December 5,2020,at Mount Camel Emekuku, Owerri North LGA,following their recent election.

They  also restated that the resolution of Owerri people at the 3rd Anniversary of  Egbu Declaration that Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu is not and will never again be the leader or Spokesperson of Owerri Zone.

Earlier, the former Director General of Imo Orientation, Chief Opara in his inaugural speach at the occasion thanked everyone who graced the brotherly event and assured the group of the steadfast service of the new National Executive Council of Olu Owerri. He said that the inauguration marks a great milestone in the struggle for unity and development of Owerri senatorial zone as well as demonstrates a vote of confidence by the members of the union on the newly elected and inaugurated committee.

The Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Deacon Kelvin Ihebom,the immediate past Bursar of Alvan Ikoku Federal College of Education Owerri in his remarks pointed out the agenda of Olu Owerri Association include; to unite Owerri zone and support effort to install  an Imo state governor of Owerri zone extraction. He emphasized that Olu Owerri is not a political party and not against any political party but their interest is for Owerri zone to succeed and for justice to reign in the Imo state corridors of power. 

He enjoined Owerri zone not to be disillusioned by the outcome of the 2019 Imo gubernatorial election, adding that 2023 will be better. 

He therefore advised Owerri zone to unite as one and speak in one voice because, according to him not coming together as a zone has denied them many things.

Performing his assignment earlier, the Chairman of the Inauguration planning committee, Sir Eddy Anyanwu congratulated the newly elected committee and called them out to take Oaths of office. 

They include; Chief Martin Opara as President General. Others are; Dr. Charles Ugwuegbulam – National Vice President, Barr. Sylvester Nwogu – National Secretary, Hon. Chinasa Nwaete – Assistant Secretary, Chief Barr Canice Madukaji – National Legal Adviser 1, Barr Kelechi Ahamba – National Legal Adviser II, Hon. Mrs Amarachi Ogbonna – National Women Leader, Mrs Ozioma Nzewuodo – Deputy Women Leader, Engr. Samuel Nwokeocha – National Youth Leader, Comrade Ndudi Opara – Assistant National Youth Leader, Dr. Anthony Nkwocha – Financial Secretary, Mr. David Opara -Treasurer, Mr. Ogechi Agbaoso – National Organizing Secretary, Comrade Ekenze Chibuzor – Assistant National Organizing Secretary, Mr. Ejike Ekemonye – Coordinator Special Citizens, Mr. Peter Ihejirika , Assistant National Publicity Secretary, Nokey Ebikam – Ex- Officio, Engr. Candidus Achonwa – Ex-Officio, Emeruwa Uchenna – Provost 1.

After the inauguration and Oath taking by the newly elected committee, Chief Dr Emeka Diwe, The South East Town Union President, the national President of Orluzurumee and the President of Amalgamation of Imo Professional Bodies and Association received a special award at the occasion for his commitment, love, motivation and contributions to the growth and interest of Olu Owerri. 

Chief Diwe accepted the award from the BOT chairman with excitement  as he described the award as a complete explanation of what he has been and what he will continue to be. “I will continue to grow with this award beside me”. He added that: “I have always shown commitment in the interest of Olu Owerri because I support justice, fairness, integrity, credibility and goodness. I often associate with these qualities listed above. I want to appeal to Owerri zone to keep faith alive. I don’t understand what happened in this 2019 election but there is a way God works and that way God works will always vindicate justice. Do not depart from your good works. God tastes our perseverance and relationship with him”. 

Senator Francis Ezenwa Onyewuchi, the senator representing Owerri zone also received a special award for his good representation at the red chambers and for empowering many Owerri people. He was ably represented by Ambassador Azu Okorie, the Director General, Senator Onyewuchi Campaign Organization who appreciated the award and thanked Olu Owerri for such honour while assuring the group of the senator’s unalloyed support and enthusiasm to the growth and development of Owerri Zone.
