· Calls on governor to withdraw Army
The United Progressive Party, UPP candidate for Imo West senatorial district in the 2019 general election, Comrade Precious Nwadike has expressed worry about the grave silence of Orlu leaders, especially the elected office holders over the reported carnage going on in the area.
The pioneer National President of Orluzurumee Youth Assembly and the Imo State Chairman of Ourmumudondo Movement stated this yesterday in Owerri while fielding questions from newsmen. According to him, there appears to be a total disconnect between the leaders and the people so much that the led are now left to their fate having been deserted by those elected to protect and defend them.
Nwadike noted that there is no best times to be with the people than these trying times and moments.”No doubt, this is not time to apportion blames but to address the issues before us. The refusal of our leaders to speak and condemn what is going on in Orlu is not just a sin against humanity but an act of wickedness to allow those they represent to be harassed, maimed and killed. More worrisome is that some of them are even busy with their 2023 campaign,pretending unaware of the carnage in the area even with sordid images from Orlu that have gone viral. There is no justification for this”.
On the deployment of soldiers, Nwadike said, the present situation does not call for such military action, as that falls short of the rules of engagement. He wondered when Government started using the military to fish out hoodlums in the society.
The Orlu born human rights activist disclosed that as a former youth leader of the zone, he received several calls regarding the harassment and killing of the people, stressing that the development is pathetic and unfortunate. He called on the government to employ more strategic measures in controlling the situation.
Nwadike described Orlu people as very peaceful but are being portrayed in bad light by mischievous elements for political gains.”If there are people who are irresponsible, among us, then it is those leaders who divert constituency funds/projects and subject the people to untold hardship. Those are the irresponsible people.If you like call them criminals.We can’t fold our hands and allow such people deride the zone where some of us come from”, he stated.
