The Provost of the Federal College of Land Resources Technology (FECOLART),Dr Oluyemi Akande has commended the federal government for initiating and supporting programs and activities that are geared towards enhancing and developing the agricultural sector and subsequently ensure food security in the country.

Dr Akande stated this in a communiqué issued at the 59th general meeting of the National Association of Heads of Colleges of Agricultural and related disciplines   (NACHCARD)  held in Abuja on Monday June 14, 2021.

The FECOLART Provost who presided over the meeting in his capacity as the current chairman, further noted that with the support of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and donor agencies, NACHCARD and it’s affiliate bodies will continue to train well equipped middle management manpower that will play cardinal roles in enhancing the socio-economic development of the country through well articulated, productive and result-oriented agric sector participation.

In his speech earlier the Executive Secretary of Agricultural Research Council of Nigeria (ARCN), Prof Garba E. Sharubutu, passed a vote of confidence on the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development,Hon Audu Ogbeh who he said has shown commitment, zeal and passion for the development of the agricultural sector.

He said the meeting was convened to assess the directives given by President and Minister of Agriculture on the need to extend and establish centres in the various states for the training of graduates, farmers, middle management manpower and other stakeholders across the states to boost the country’s agricultural sector and serve as avenues for reaching out to and educating rural farmers.

He regretted that the committees at the state level and the ADPs are not doing the needful because they lack the capacity.
