The Imo State government yesterday demolished the government house/Okigwe road by Wetheral roundabout constructed by the self acclaimed Rochas Okorocha Rescue Mission administration at enormous cost, hopefully, to make way for the construction of a  better and modern roundabout that will ease traffic flow.

Some motorists who spoke to our correspondent who visited the scene, said, “we support the demolition of the bogus roundabout which occupies a greater part of the road and makes it difficult for vehicles to crisscross the area, thereby causing traffic gridlock”.

They expressed delight at the development pointing out that, “it would be better if the Uzodinma government replicate what it did at the Fire Service, Warehouse/Bank road and other roundabouts where the commendable transformation has tremendously eased traffic flow, to the admiration of Imo people who have been relieved of the chaotic and stressful traffic gridlocks that not only sap energy but also waste their precious time”.

It would be recalled that the Okorocha government on several occasions and at great cost, remodeled, demolished and rebuilt several roundabouts in the state including the government house roundabout that has the names of the 27 local government areas in the state engraved at the base.

“The massive roundabout at Nwaorieubi that so has the carved images of nine men with their hands inexplicably chained behind them which almost covers the entire road with very narrow space left for vehicular movement as opposed to the modern, well planned and designed roundabouts with functional traffic lights which the Hope Uzodinma government is constructing also deserves a second look. However, let’s watch and see what the government intends to do after the demolition”, the motorists said.
