In line with the determination of the Prof Ikechukwu Dozie led management of Kingsley Ozumba Mbadiwe University and that of the institution’s Visitor, Governor Hope Uzodinma, Prof Aloysius Chijioke Onyeka, a renowned academic, administrator and seasoned manager of men and resources, has been appointed, Deputy Vice Chancellor.


Onyeka, a widely published Professor of Stastics with Specialty in Stastical Computing and Sample Surveys whose appointment has been ratified by the University’s Visitor, Governor Hope Uzodinma has already assumed duty.


This is coming at a time that the University which was enmeshed in controversy over its ownership status has commenced activities for the 2021/2022 academic session and is about to advertize for new intake.


Prof Aloysius Chijioke who hails from Okporo in Orlu LGA of Imo state, attended Ihitte-Akatta Primary School, Awka-Akatta, and Bishop Shanahan College, Orlu before proceeding to Imo state university, Uturu for his first degree. Thereafter, he attended the University of Ibadan for his Masters and Doctoral degree programs.


Prof Onyeka, an astute University administrator has shown capacity and recorded monumental achievements over the years, in the areas of Statistical Analysis of Research Data, with over 80 successful PhD Thesis analysis, Productive Works in Stastical Computing, Advances in Information and Communication Technology (ICT), Sampling Theory and Survey Methodology and Consultancy/Human Capital Development.


The new Deputy Vice Chancellor, has vast teaching, administrative and leadership experience, having occupied different positions, including, Pioneer Rector, Bishop Shanahan Polytechnic Orlu; Pioneer Head, Department of Statistics, Federal University of Technology (FUTO), Owerri;Head, Department of Computer Science, FUTO; Director Information and Communication Technology, Centre (FUTO); Director, University Computer Centre (UCC), FUTO; Sabbatical/Visiting Professor, Department  of Statistics, Abia State University, Uturu. He also pioneered the use of Computer-based tests (CBT) in writing JAMB examination at FUTO among others.


Prof Onyeka is Chief Consultant and Resource Person to the Imo state government on Computer Training and supply of computers to staff of Imo state Local Empowerment and Environmental Management Project (LEEMP), Chief Consultant and Resource Person to the Imo state government through the Imo state Public Sector Governance Reform and Development Project (World Bank Assisted) on training of staff of Imo State Bureau of Statistics on the use of SAS software and Pioneer Proprietor/CEO, Owerri CBT, Hi-Tech, Owerri, a JAMB approved CBT Centre and top notch digital learning outfit.


The Orlu born academic and university administrator belongs to a number of national and international professional bodies, including International Statistical Institute (ISI), International Association of Survey Statisticians (IASS), International Biometric Society (IBS), Royal Statistical Society (RSS), Nigerian Statistical Association (NSA) and Professional Statisticians Society of Nigeria (PSSN).
