The Incorporated Trustees of Orluzurumee Youth Assembly OYA, the umbrella socio-cultural organization of youths in the twelve local government areas of Orlu zone have lauded the  Nkwerre born United States of America based Attorney, Nze Daniel Jason Chigbu, an old student of St Augustine’s Grammar School (SAGS) Nkwerre for giving his alma mater a face lift.

The group in a letter of commendation dated 19th November  and signed by their Spokesperson, Engr Kyrian Echerebo hailed Attorney Chigbu “for renovating, furnishing and completely transforming a dormitory at St Augustine Grammer School in addition to providing solar-powered water supply to ameliorate  the plight of staff and students of the school which had stayed without water since 1948”.

They further noted that, “it is a fact that successive governments in the state have not lived up to expectations in terms of addressing the deplorable state of infrastructure in our schools, especially in Orlu zone, hence your concern and attendant magnanimity are not only commendable but worthy of emulation.”

The apex umbrella socio-cultural group of youths in Orlu zone expressed delight at Attorney Chigbu’s kind gesture and called on their sons and daughters at home and in the Diaspora to emulate his patriotic zeal and passion for the development of his alma mater and by extension the community.

The letter reads in parts, “we are aware that you may not be the wealthiest among Orlu sons and daughters but you were motivated by your passion and concern for the youths, your community and love for human capital development to invest a whopping N36m in such selfless project as a gift to humanity.”

It would be recalled that, Chigbu had invested the sum of N36m in renovating and remodeling a dormitory that was at one time formally called Nkwerre House but now renamed “Nze Daniel Chigbu Nkwerre House”, inline with agreement signed and sealed with the Orlu Anglican Diocese (Owners of School), of which copy this reporter sighted.

Apart from total renovation and remodeling the dormitory, he also provided solar powered water supply to enhance the use of the modern conveniences and facilities he provided in the school for the use of staff and students. The dormitory was after renovation renamed “Nze Daniel Chigbu Nkwerre House”.

It was gathered that most of the buildings in the school which had been without water supply since its inception in 1948 were dilapidated and in very deplorable condition, hence some of them were not in use. But in his determination to provide water and ameliorate the plight of the students, Attorney Chigbu commissioned a company to conduct a geophysical study of the school and submit a report. “Based on the report of the company, Nze Daniel Chigbu embarked on the herculean task of installing a comprehensive solar powered water supply with all necessary equipment, hence about 14 showers and 8 toilets in the dormitory are constantly flushed with ease after use” This has enhanced the sanitary condition of the school and the health of the students.”

According to a teacher in the school who pleaded anonymity, the construction of the dormitory and provision of other facilities including solar powered water supply lasted for a period of 9 months from inception to commissioning.

He said that some of the facilities provided in the school by Attorney Chigbu include 3 over head water tanks, well planned grass terrace with accompanying landscaping, well ventilated and 24 hour solar powered dormitory with accommodation for 80 students or more, 8 toilets and 14 showers divided between the duplex bathroom/toilet bathrooms on each side of the dormitory, etc. Attorney Chigbu also completely furnished the dormitory with wardrobes, bunkbeds, mattresses, pillows and even bedsheets and pillowcases for each bed.
