Chief Mike Nwachukwu, (Mpi Dike) a retired Banker, and senatorial candidate of the All Progressive Grand Alliance for Owerri zone in the 2019 election has declared his intention to contest the 2023 senatorial election on the platform of the All Progressive Congress, APC.
Nwachukwu who made known his intention known while addressing media executives at his Egbelu, Obube residence in Owerri North LGA of Imo State Sunday, January 2, 2022 noted that he has what it takes to offer quality and effective representation, if elected.
Responding to a question, Chief Nwachukwu said, “for now, I am the only person that has publicly declared his intention to contest the Imo East Senatorial seat. It is only when those whose interests are currently in the realm of assumption and speculation make them public that we will know who is the underdog or the over dog.
For now, I am the only dog in the manger as far as the 2023 Owerri Senatorial election is concerned.”
“Besides, effective representation is not just sharing motorcycles and rice to the people. A seasoned Senator should be proactive, and conversant with the dynamics of lawmaking and how to ensure that the needs of his constituents are captured in the budget by liaising and networking with his colleagues, relevant agencies, ministries and departments and other stakeholders with a view to achieving result.”
He disclosed that most presentations are not captured in the budget bcause they are not well articulated, packaged and thoroughly streamlined.
“But as an experienced retired Banker who understands how these things work, knowing that processes for next year’s budget starts between March and April of the current year, if elected, I will deploy my effort towards collating, articulating and processing relevant information and data into a well defined bankable document that will enhance proper understanding and inclusion in the budget by those concerned,”
He urged the media to ensure that candidates for elections are made to face the electorate in a debate where they will present their manifesto and how they intend to actualize it with a view to dispensing the dividends of democracy in line with their promises.
He advised the Imo electorate to look inwards and properly evaluate the qualities and capacity of candidates before throwing their support behind them.
