Comrade Steven Anugwom, an Imo based politician and businessman who hails from Umuowa in Orlu local government area of Imo state has dragged his brother, Dennis Anugwom who is based in the United States of America to the police for allegedly tagging him a member of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra with a view to eliminating him.
Steven Anugwom in a petition he signed and addressed to the Commissioner of Police, Imo State police command, dated February 7, 2022 and copied to the Inspector General of Police, Director, State Security services, Imo State, the traditional ruler of Umuowa and the American Embassy, said; “I wish to bring to your notice the evil plan by one, Chief Denis Anugom, who is based in the United States of America to tag me a member of the proscribed Indigenous people of Biafra and eliminate me for not supporting his unwholesome, and atrocious activities in the village.
“It is on record that Chief Denis had maliciously misinformed security agents by claiming that I am a member of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, hoping that the allegation is enough for the security agents to whisk me away and probably eliminate me.
“However, the security agents exhibited high level of maturity and professionalism when they took the allegation with a pinch of salt, called me on phone on Monday January, 31, 2022 and invited me for a chat with a view to finding out the truth.
“After my explanation, the security agents who found out that the allegation leveled against me was not only false and unfounded but malicious advised me to be careful with my brother as he does not mean well for me, adding that he wants to take advantage of the security situation in the state to deal with me.”
“He further averred that the only issue he has with his brother Chief Dennis Anugwom is his firm and unwavering stand against some of his atrocious and unwholesome acts and conduct against their people which he (Steven) considers distasteful, repulsive and reprehensible.
“For instance, when he attempted to forcefully appropriate peoples land in addition to harassing, intimidating and oppressing them and expected me to support him, I refused and told him to desist from such attitude.
“Dissatisfied with my insistence on due process, justice and fairness, he saw me as stumbling block and decided to eliminate me by falsely telling security operatives that I am a member of IPOB knowing that such allegation now could spell doom for me.
“I therefore call on the Imo State police command and other relevant agencies to come to my rescue as he has vowed to end my life by hook or crook.
For two weeks now I have been receiving several death threats from anonymous callers so much that my family and I have vacated the house and presently squatting somewhere for safety.
“I have also been told that having failed to achieve his desire through misinformation there is tendency he will explore other options arid avenues to actualize his wicked and nefarious plot against me.
“I call on the police, human rights organizations and other relevant agencies to investigate this allegation and bring the perpetrator to book before he succeeds in killing me and my family.
As a law abiding citizen of Nigeria, I am ready to avail you further information on this if invited. Meanwhile, I wish to categorically state that while the investigation is ongoing, should any happen to me or any member of my family, Chief Denis should be held responsible.”
