Imo State University in their quest to fight Corruption and structure the bursary department on the 24th of May began a 3day workshop which ended on the 26th of May 2023.

The workshop started with opening remark by the Coordinator, Dr Emmanuel Obinna Esomonu who emphasized that the workshop is aimed at restructuring the University Bursary Department for better service delivery and productivity.

He also highlighted the personality traits expected of a bursary staff and advised them to exhibit these traits and desist from actions that would jeopardize their services while also commending the Bursar, Dr Kjoku Fedelis Okwudili for initiating the program.He added that it was  the first time such training was being organized by the school to ensure efficiency.

Elder Iwuchukwu, one of the guest speakers at the workshop spoke on the importance of financial audit in the bursary department. He stated that it is performed to ascertain the validity and reality of information as well as provide an assessment of the internal control system of an establishment. Audit, he said is a systematic evaluation or inspection of the financial records of an establishment by an auditor.

He went further to outline the types of audit as external audit, internal audit and Internal Revenue Service audit (IRS).

Dr Desmond addressed staff of the Bursary department on procurement and its fundamental principles; According to him, it is the use of public funds by the public entities such as an institution for the delivery of public goods and services through a third party called contractor.

He also explained the distinction between Stock Received Voucher (SRV) and Stock Issued Voucher (SIV), and urged the bursary staff to strive for excellence and promote good, accurate and reliable skills while performing their functions.   

The highlight of the event was the presentation of Certificate of Participation to the participants by the Bursar, Dr Kjoku Fedelis Okwudili.

The 3 day workshop came to an end after a brief prayer and vote of thanks by Mr Chima who thanked the dignitaries, guest speakers and the participants for attending the workshop.
