Chief Emeka Diwe, National President of Association of Igbo Town Unions (ASITU) has commended Ohaneze Ndigbo and other Igbo leaders for convening a strategic meeting of stakeholders to discuss how to find lasting solution to the security and socio-economic challenges confronting the Igbo nation.

Chief Diwe, who also attended the meeting held at Abuja, gave the commendation while fielding questions from journalists in Aba, Abia State office.

He expressed happiness that the meeting which was attended by South East Governors, Senator, Members of the House of Representatives and other prominent Igbo leaders, irrespective of political affiliations x-rayed the numerous challenges confronting the South east geopolitical zone and the way forward.

He noted that the South East, unlike other zones in the country, is controlled by 4 different political parties but the leaders did not let their political differences to impede the success of the meeting and their ability to present  a common front on the nagging issues, including security and economy.

Diwe, in his capacity as the leader of Igbos at the grassroots, lauded Ohaneze Ndigbo and other stakeholders who attended the meeting for deeming it fit to bring insecurity and challenges confronting the zone to the front burner of public discuss, with a view to addressing them holistically and stem the tide of their devastating impact on the people

“The grassroots suffer insecurity more and bear the brunt of bad economy more than can be imagined. He who wears the shoes knows where it pinches, and no man can shave a man’s hair in his presence”, he said.

He therefore called on Igbo leaders to ensure full integration of   the leadership of the communities in the development and implementation of the blueprints that will pull the zone out of the quagmire”.
