The gubernatorial candidate of the Labour Party for the November 11 governorship election, Senator Athan Achonu has decried the poor state of Imo State.

He described Imo State as  a painted sepulchre noting that it is dead and rotten inside but it is been painted on the outside as good.

The Imo guber hopeful stated this in  interactive session with some selected  journalists in Owerri, the Imo State capital over the weekend.

Senator Achonu expressed dismay about the dilapidated condition of virtually all sectors of the State economy, stressing that this has encouraged the Imo electorate to vote wisely in the upcoming election, which is an opportunity for them to change the narrative.

He also urged them not to allow politicians who have nothing to offer to buy their way into power as this would amount to mortgaging their future and that of their children.

The Mbano Local Government Area  born business mogul expressed sadness  over the investments he  made in Imo State in the past years so as to bring about enabling environment that can encourage growth, and development ,in addition to creating job opportunities for  Imo youths.These include the acquisition of sixty percent of the the former Imo Hotels by Nzeako,the ten storey building that is been rotten which was meant for the Radisson hotel,the  license of a refinery in Ohaji Egbema and also an industrial Motor Park which were all  frustrated by the government of the day.

He also talked of his plans to activate the Sam Mbakwe Cargo airport which were all nullified by the government of the day.All these would have created wealth and  job opportunities for youths in Imo state, adding that when elected as the governor all this would not happen.

Senator Athan also stated that the “Aku ruo ulo” which he has been preaching about for several years will all be possible if elected governor,adding that some Imo business men and women are not investing in Imo because of lack of security and hostility by the government adding that an enabling environment would bring them back to Imo State and help grow the economy.

The Owner of Numo farms also added that he is driven by the passion for restructuring Imo State to be a better place for all.
