Oweri, the Imo State capital, is in a very expectant mood, as arrangement have been concluded to welcome the Presidential candidate of Labour Party in the February, 25 election, Peter Obi and his entourage to the state today, for the official flag off of the Labour Party campaign, for the November, 11, governorship election.

Obi, who will be accompanied by Governor Alex Otti of Abia State, who also contested election on the platform of Labour Party, alongside other Chieftains of the party are said to be throwing their weight behind Senator Athan Achonu despite the confusion about who is the authentic governorship candidate of Labour Party In Imo State.

It would be recalled that the conflicting judgments pronounced by different courts have made it difficult to know who actually is the authentic governorship candidate of the party in Imo State.

However, a Chieftain of the party who does not want his name in print said, “it is on record that while Senator Athan Achonu and other governorship aspirants of our party assembled at Landmark Event Center for the primary election which was monitored by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC, Joseph Ukaegbu and Basil Maduka were at another venue, where they purportedly held their own primary. While the primary conducted at Landmark Event Center produced Athan Achonu as the party’s candidate, the one organized by the Lamdi Apapa-led faction elsewhere, produced Joseph Ukaegbu as their own candidate. But as it is now, the Presidential candidate of the party, Peter Obi and his entourage are coming to throw their weight behind Athan Achonu, who they recognize as the authentic governorship candidate of Labour party in Imo State”.

However, in a recent interview, the National Chairman of the party, ABI Onyekwesili, said, it is only the court that will decide who is the authentic governorship candidate of the party in Imo State.
