Chima Centus Nweze, a justice of Nigeria’s apex court, the Supreme Court, is dead.

According to a source,Nweze was reportedly ill, and died at the age of 64.

Justice Nweze would be remembered for opposing his colleagues who affirmed Senator Hope Uzodimma as the duly elected governor of Imo State.

In his dissenting judgment, he had asked the apex court to set aside the January 14 ruling of the court that sacked Emeka Ihedioha as governor of Imo State.

He described it as a nullity and in bad faith.

“This decision of the Supreme Court will continue to haunt our electoral jurisprudence for a long time to come” he said.

With his demise, the number of Supreme Court judges is now 12. He was the fifth most senior justice of the nation’s apex court.
