–         As Recipient Promises To Do More

Imo Editors and Columnists Forum, comprising seasoned practicing journalists in the state have honoured the Chief Medical Director of the Federal University of Technology Teaching Hospital, Owerri, Dr Kingsley Achigbu, with an Excellent Leadership Award in recognition of his outstanding performance since he assumed office.

Conferring the award, the Coordinator of the group, Chinedu Opara, who is the Editor of Nigeria Newspoint Newspaper, said that after extensive study and investigation into the activities of the institution under the watch of Dr Achigbu, the forum concluded that the Chief Medical Director and his management team deserve commendation and encouragement, hence, the presentation of the award.

Chinedu Opara, further stated that the assessment test took cognizance of the fact that, it is during Dr Achigbu’s tenure that the institution was elevated from the Federal Medical Center to the Federal University of Technology, Teaching Hospitals, Owerri.

That the institution has continued to enjoy relative peace unlike in the past when it was known for persistent industrial crises.

The group said, that it also took note of the good working relationship that exist between the management and staff of the institution, in addition to improved performance that has culminated in optimal service delivery as attested to by most patients of the hospital and their relatives.

While commending the CMD and his management team for the achievements recorded so far, the Forum urged them not to relent, adding that it is one thing to achieve success and another thing to sustain it.

Responding, Dr Achigbu, who is in his second term in office as the CMD of the hospital, thanked the group for finding him worthy of the honour, despite the prevailing socio-economic challenges in the South east geopolitical zone, adding that it is a privilege for people to recognize and appreciate the effort ones effort and contributions.

Dr Achigbu also commented on the need for constructive criticism by Journalists, who he said should look at issues critically before giving to press.

He commended the Forum for its sincere and courageous assessment and also for choosing him among other numerous qualified people in public offices.
