–         Say, Detractors, Will Fail

–         Thank Gov For Her Appointment

The Executive Secretary of Imo State Secondary Education Management Board SEMB, Mrs Tina Azubuike, has been described as a seasoned administrator, educationist and technocrat whose leadership prowess, and result-oriented approach to issues, strict adherence to due process, justice and fairness without minding whose ox is gored has not only boosted the confidence and morale of the management, staff, students and teachers of the various secondary schools in the State but also transformed the Board tremendously.

Some stakeholders, including staff of SEMB, Principals and members of Parent Teacher Associations of Secondary schools stated this in separate interviews with our reporter recently.

They commended Mrs Tina Azubuike who they described as “an uncompromising Christian for sanitizing the system and for carrying out a very credible, transparent and result-oriented transfer that was based on merit without any monetary or financial inducement unlike in the past when transfer to some schools was determined by how much one could pay”.

Another commendable feat for which the current Executive Secretary is reportedly given kudos is the decisive step she took towards eradicating the falsification of service records and the refusal of some unscrupulous elements to retire after conniving with some questionable characters to falsify their service records to enable them remain in service longer than necessary. It was gathered that, “her determination, effort and uncompromising approach towards addressing the menace which went on for a very long time before she assumed office has made her to incur the wrath of those who perpetrated the criminal act. Hence they are doing everything they can to tarnish her image. But some of us who know the good work she is doing have been praying for her because light will always triumph over darkness”.

Also commenting on what they referred to as the giant strides of Mrs Tina Aukubike, Dr Ken Amadi and Nze Paul Ihenacho who identified themselves as executives of the Parent Teacher Associations of some secondary schools in Owerri Municipal Council and Oweri North Local Government Area, alongside others who pleaded anonymity, poured encomium on the current Executive Secretary for ensuring that the various sums of money extorted from them and their members in different guises were refunded immediately it was brought to her notice, while the affected principals were either sanctioned or cautioned to desist from such unethical conduct.

“This is the first time such decisive action that led to the immediate refund of our money has was promptly taken”.

“The problem that some of those who are complaining have, is that the new Executive Secretary has refused to compromise her integrity or condone the “business as usual” syndrome which encouraged all kinds of corruption and unethical conducts, while at the same time mortgaging merit on the altar of mediocrity and self aggrandizement”.

A good number of Principals, including Mrs Billy Nwoko Queen who was transferred from a school in Mbaise to Ikenegbu Secondary School and Mrs Adiele Salome, who was transferred from her former school to Imo Girls Secondary school, Owerri, among others, who spoke in separate interviews with our reporter said that they neither visited the Executive Secretary’s office, nor paid a kobo to anybody to influence their transfer.

Mrs Billy Nwoko, said, “before I was transferred to Ikengebu Girls Secondary School, Owerri, though I have been on salary Grade level 16, since 2015, I had not sat down anywhere to discuss with the Executive Secretary of SEMB. Though I had seen her a couple of times at the meeting of ANCOPPS where, she is a state executive. The recent transfer from one school to another, to the best of my knowledge was strictly based on merit”.

Continuing, they said, “the new Executive Secretary of SEMB, is indeed God sent. We sincerely thank the Governor, Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodinma and the Commissioner for Education, Prof John Cliff Nwadike for bringing her on board to sanitize the system and transform the Board at this point in time”.

Some Principals of secondary schools who spoke to our correspondent on condition of anonymity disclosed that Mrs Azubuike, in line with her zero tolerance for all kinds of official misconduct immediately she assumed office, warned all Principals, teachers and non-teaching staff in secondary schools in the state, against absenteeism, lateness to work without permission, extortion of parents, students and fellow staff in any guise whatsoever, non-compliance with decisions, programs and policies of the SEMB and the Ministry of Education, as well as not teaching students appropriately as and at when due”.

Continuing, the source said, “the Executive Secretary, also warned against lack of supervision of teaching and learning in public secondary schools, selling of unapproved books and other materials, in subordination at all levels and in all forms, adding that defaulters will be dealt with in line with civil service rules, directives and guidelines”.

The warning, according to our source, has helped in restoring sanity to the system and also put all concerned on their toes, resulting in optimal performance and transformation”.
