– Abure, Achonu Commend Feat

Imo State witnessed a grand gathering of Labour Party elites on Saturday 10th of February, 2024 at the Stakeholders Meeting organized by the leadership of the party at Metro Event Center, Onitsha Road, Owerri. 

Speaking at the Society event, the Party Chairman, Barr. Calistus Ihejiagwa, expressed profound appreciation to the Stakeholders and Executive Members of the party for their presence, support and contributions to the growth and sustainability of the party, charging them to remain committed for the good of the party.

He encouraged the party members not to be deterred by the outcome of the last Imo gubernatorial election, adding that the result of the 2023 election is unacceptable, hence, the labour party will sack Uzodinma through the Court.

Senator Athan Nneji Achonu, the Labour Party governorship candidate at the 2023 elections while speaking during the occasion, enjoined labour party members to be supportive, uncompromising and dedicated to the party, maintaining that in Politics everywhere in the world, the state executive is supported by the members of the party. 

He emphasized on need for membership drive for the party, revealing the strategic plans of his campaign organization to map out a ground membership drive for the party, adding that they have released 25million naira to the leadership of the party to work for the party.

According to him, Labour Party was the only party that presented credible candidates for the last election, adding that Labour Party won the Imo governorship election and must reclaim her mandate.  

“The last election in Imo was a joke, and must be cancelled. We must make sure that the election is cancelled and there will be a rerun” he insisted.  

Hon. Matthew Nwaogu, House of Representatives Member for Ngor Okpala, Aboh Mbaise and Ezinihitte Mbaise who was present at the occasion, expressed satisfaction at Imo State Labour Party leadership and the proactive steps they have taken so far in rebuilding the party. He described the meeting as apt, while assuring members of the party that he is fully involved and must support the directives of the state as long as the directives are confirmed by the National Chairman. 

Hon. Tochukwu Okere (TOSKA), Member representing Owerri Federal Constituency, in his remark stated that it is the responsibility of every member to move the party forward no matter what it takes. 

His words “We expect high level integrity from the stakeholders. Those that have erred in different ways perhaps because of financial inducements or other things, have been forgiven but must change. 

“Labor party belongs to all of us. We must be proud of our great party. Nigeria is headed nowhere with this APC leadership. The situation of things in the country now have proven a point. Our candidate has to be brought to the platform to change the status quo.” 

Hon. Clinton Amadi, Member representing Owerri Municipal and the minority leader of Imo House of Assembly, commended the state chairman and the Party Excos for organizing such event at the right time. 

He appealed to the National leadership of the party to ensure a free and transparent Congress, for the party to remain formidable. He maintained that a lot of people are sacrificing for the party and must be appreciated and not short changed. 

COMRADE Prince Kennedy Ahanotu, LP National Youth Coordinator,  applauded Imo Labour Party for having a productive Stakeholders Meeting, revealing that there will be a State to State Nationwide Stakeholders Meeting which Imo State LP has flagged off. He commended the elected members of the party there present, saying that what builds every party is the people that are elected in the party. 

“Labour Party is a family made up of Papa, Mama, Pikin. Let us work as a family, supporting the party.” He inferred. 

National Vice Chairman, Chief Innocent Okeke (Agumba), expressed fulfilment that he is from Imo State, as he extolled the efforts of the party leadership in the state. He commended the stakeholders meeting, charging Imo LP to build committed stakeholders that can play their unique advisory roles to ensure the party’s sustainability.

National Chairman of the Labour Party, Hon. Julius Abure in response to all that was presented before him, appreciated the LP Imo State, for distinguishing themselves through hard work and unwavering commitment, saying that LP won massively in Imo State, showing the capacity of the party. 

“Your contributions and support are visible. We will do a thank you tour to all the states across the country. We appreciate the donor of the party office in Imo State and all those who have put in their time and resources to the party’s growth. 

“I’m happy with the stakeholders meeting. Imo State is the first to come up with this novel Initiative. It is not capturing power that is important, it is what one can do with power. Imo leadership has shown capacity. Whatever you want to do including the congresses, we shall support and ensure effective delivery,” Abure said.
