The member representing for Owerri Federal Constituency in the Federal House of Representatives Hon Tochukwu Okere’s has recorded another legislative feat as his bill for an Act to Provide Certain Rights for older persons in order to ensure Health, Economic Relief and Protection for Social and Civil Rights and other matters, 2025 has passed second reading.
The lawmaker who has earlier sponsored several bills including the recent one that called for urgent attention to the escalating security challenges in the south East, with particular emphasis on Owerri Federal Constituency disclosed this in a post on his social media platform. He expressed gratitude to the Speaker and his colleagues for the support.
According to him, “Prohibit discrimination against our senior citizens.
“Instill the rights and privileges of older persons in our national policy.
“Provide ease of access to physical infrastructures to our senior citizens.
• Provide housing.
• Provide rebate
.• Provide rights to first consideration in queues and in emergencies.
“I feel good to be at the helm of this all-important bill, together with my dear brother and senior colleague, Senator Eze Ajoku.
“My utmost prayer is that this bill will be considered a law in the shortest time possible, and our senior citizens will live better and longer by it”.
The federal lawmaker whose positive impact has reportedly been felt in virtually all parts of his constituency is said to have given a good account of himself by virtue of his impressive score card.
Some of his constituents who spoke to this reporter said, “Hon Tochukwu Okere indeed has offered quality, effective and people-oriented representation. His track record with a very short time is highly commendable. Aside from his well packaged empowerment programmes, he has executed projects in virtually all the autonomous communities in his constituency, organized football competition for the youths, offered scholarships to selected indigent students in addition to sponsoring people oriented bills.
