Former Chairman of the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) Owerri Chapter, Barr Lawrence Nwakaeti has been nominated to deliver a lecture at the forthcoming unveiling of the new Workstation to be commissioned by the Comrade Precious Nwadike led Nigeria Union of Journalists Imo State Council which is expected to cost over #7 million.
Chairman of the Press Center Management Committee, Austin Agwulonu, who is also a member of the Imo NUJ Management Committee in a chat with this reporter, said, Nwakaeti was chosen because of who he is and what he represents. He also disclosed that the former NBA Chairman’s lecture will discuss the role of journalists in a democracy.
Agwulonu also stated that the upcoming event is exclusively for members of the union, some Imolites, friends and well wishers of the Union.
“The event will also be an opportunity to appreciate all journalists who were instrumental to the recovery of the Imo NUJ Secretariat from the fraudulent impostors who were bent on selling it for personal gain.
Recall that the Comrade Precious Nwadike-led Imo NUJ executive fought relentless legal battles that culminated in the recovery of the secretariat from Chris Akaraonye and his cohorts who desperately wanted to sell it to a former governor of the state. A favourable judgment delivered by a High Court sitting in Owerri, the State capital, truncated their criminal plot and the recovery possible.
