The matter instituted by the former Chairman, Local Government Service Commission Mrs Roseline Izuogu as Plaintiff marked Suit No/HOW/1317/2023 with Spectacular Publishing Ltd and the Nigeria Newspaper as Defendants respectively, has been adjourned to July 30, 2025.
The matter came up recently at a High Court sitting in Owerri presided over by Justice L.C Azuama.
Mrs Izuogu is praying the Court for an Order that the sum of #250m be paid to her for the damages she incurred as a result of the libelous publication. She is also demanding the sum of #5 million as cost of the action.
Recall that the Nigeria Watchdog Newspaper sometime ago published a report about how Mrs Izuogu’s son, Precious Izuogu, who also doubled as his Personal Assistant allegedly battered the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Local Government Service Commission Unegbu Chimaobi Micheal, for refusing to carry his mother’s hand bag after a church service at Dunamis Church Int’l, located along Port Harcourt Road, Owerri, the Imo State capital.
It was also gathered that Mrs Izuogu allegedly told her son that Chimaobi Unegbu insulted her, hence his son allegedly recruited some thugs with whom he battered and humiliated the PRO at the instance of his mother who reportedly witnessed the ugly incident.
According to eyewitness accounts, “trouble started when Mrs Izuogu told the Public Relations Officer of the Local Government Service Commission, Unegbu Chimaobi to carry her bag and he refused to do so. Angered by the development, which she considered insulting, Izuogu allegedly told her son who also doubles as her Personal Assistant to beat up Chimaobi Unegbu”.
