Ahead of the 2027 election cycle and the need for the Igbos to have the desired relevance some top politicians of Igbo extraction have scheduled to meet in Abuja on August 27, 2025 to brainstorm on the way forward.
According to a release signed by Chief Chekwas Okorie as the Convener and Jonathan Echendu as Secretary addressed to Prof Orikaeze Ajumbe as a special invitee, the meeting captioned “Igbo Agenda Dialogue” will hold at the Chelsea Hotel in the Central Business District, Abuja, the Federal capital Territory on Wednesday, August, 27 by 10am.
The release dated August 10 2025, reads in part, “It is with a profound sense of patriotism and commitment that I send this invitation to you.
This is a result of the concerns expressed by many Igbo leaders on the state of the Igbo Nation in
Nigerian politics at this time. After a number of consultations, it became compelling that a select number of our leaders across political party lines and other critical stakeholders be invited to deliberate on what ought to be the agenda of Ndigbo in Nigerian politics irrespective of political party affiliation.
God has blessed Ndigbo with a huge population and enviable geographical spread, which have remained largely untapped over the years.
We have no excuse to lack relevance and well deserved respect in Nigeria.
We owe ourselves and our younger generations the responsibility to provide the required guidance and chart a deliberate action-plan to reverse our present unacceptable situation in a sustainable manner. It is for this and other related matters, that this meeting has become compelling and crucial.
I wish to emphasize that this meeting is non-partisan even as the subject matter is political.
Please spare some time from your crowded schedule to join us to rob minds and share your thoughts with us at the meeting”.
