In clear demonstration of cultural reverence, Mazi Chima Matthew Amadi, Saturday, joined His Royal Majesty, Eze Mitchell Ezesomaga Egbukole, Ochonma VI of Egbu autonomous community, and the people of Egbu Ancient Kingdom to celebrate the Mbubouzor Egbu Cultural Festival.
Speaking during the occasion, Amadi described it as historic and significant for every Umu Egbu and beyond. He praised the pivotal role of Egbu Community in shaping the sociocultural, religious, economic, educational, and political history of Imo State in particular and the Igbo nation in general.
According to the Nwanne di Na Mba of Obizi and Ugochinyere Mba of Ngor Okpala, the event not only reminds us of who we are and where we come from but also provides an opportunity to appreciate the benefits of our unity and shared heritage. He emphasized that the annual festival is more than a celebration as it is also a renewal of common ancestry.
He further commended the traditional ruler and his cabinet for their sustained efforts in maintaining the community’s enduring peace and development. In his characteristic manner of supporting meaningful community-driven projects, Amadi donated ten million naira toward the ongoing Oha Egbu Parliamentary Hall project.
In his earlier speech, the traditional ruler, Eze Ochonma VI described Amadi as a man of his time and season, whose genuine concern for the downtrodden transcends philanthropy. He commended the Ngor Okpala-born human nutritionist and renowned academic for allowing God to use him as a conduit for blessings rather than a storehouse. He offered his royal blessings and wished Amadi well in his endeavours.
Also speaking, a revered stakeholder and senior citizen of the Egbu community, Sir Steve Arimana, Chairman/CEO of Ariboil Nigeria Limited, on behalf of the Eze’s cabinet, expressed gratitude for Amadi’s visit and support. He assured that it will be reciprocated in due course.
In a related development, Mazi Chima Matthew Amadi joined the women of Ohekelem Autonomous Community in Ngor-Okpala Local Government Area (LGA) for their annual Women August Meeting.
Welcoming Mazi Gburugburu and his team, the traditional ruler of the community, His Royal Highness, Eze Emmanuel Okere (Ekelem of Ohekelem), and his council expressed their excitement about Amadi’s presence.
During the event, the President of the Ohekelem Women Association, Mrs Glory Sam Nwaeke highlighted the inadequate infrastructure in the community’s secondary school and lack of accreditation for WAEC examination. She described it as shocking that nine years after building the school, the state government has failed to provide the necessary facilities to make it fully functional.
In his response, Amadi decried the fact that a community in Ngor-Okpala LGA, which receives an average of 450 million naira monthly as allocation, remains in such a deplorable state. He urged citizens to awaken from their self-imposed slumber and demand accountability from the relevant authorities.
Amadi assured the community of his continued support for their development efforts and committed to sponsoring the registration of 150 students from Ohekelem Model Secondary School for the upcoming West African Senior School Certificate Examination with 50,000 naira for each student, totaling 7.5 million naira. Additionally, he donated 12 million naira for the provision of basic infrastructure for the school, in support of the women’s initiatives.
The founder and leader of The Mazi Organization was accompanied by prominent members of his organization, including Chief Henry Onwukwe (Apitti), Chief Dennis Okwu (Sweet Apple), Cajetan Duke, JP, Okenze Engr. Paul Oparah, Barr. Sam Amadi & Comrade Obioma Onwuegbucha.
