– Insists On Councils’ FISCAC Autonomy
A transparency and good governance advocacy group known Imolites For Good Governance (IFFG) has expressed disappointment over the poor funding of the local Government system in the state despite the humongous amounts allocated to each of the 27 local government councils in the state by the federal government.
The group led by Comrade Gideon Nnadi noted that available records have shown that none of the local government councils in the state have received anything less than #350 million per month in recent time, yet there is nothing to show for it. “The question on the lips of Concerned Imo people is where are all these funds considering the fact that there is nothing to show for it then?
Nnadi who stated this in a release he issued, called on the Hope Uzodinma administration to give the local government councils free hand to handle the funds accruable to them for the development of their respective councils.
The group also cautioned the local government area chairmen against the consequences of allowing themselves to be used as willing tools in shortchanging the people whose funds they hold and disburse with the government on trust adding that they will be held accountable when the chips are down.
“We urge Chairmen of the various Local government councils in the state to think twice before accepting to play along with the enemies of the people. They should be conscious of the fact that they were purportedly elected as Executive Chairmen to whom the funds are given. Whether or not that is true is for them to explain when the time comes and why they don’t raise their voices to be heard.”
