— Accuses Udenwa’s Loyalists Of Hijacking Party Structure

A group, the Orlu Equity Forum (OEF), has threatened to blacklist the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in Orlu Local Government Area of Imo State over what it described as the alleged concentration of the party’s major elective tickets within a single clan, to the exclusion of other component clans.

The group, which says it is committed to promoting justice, equity and fairness in governance, alleged that the NDC allocated its Senatorial, House of Representatives and House of Assembly tickets to individuals from the same clan, thereby marginalising other sections of Orlu LGA.

Speaking on behalf of the group, its leader, Joseph Ngoka, questioned why a political party in which former Imo State Governor, Chief Achike Udenwa, is a prominent leader would allow what he described as an inequitable distribution of its tickets.

Ngoka recalled that a similar situation allegedly occurred in 2011 when, according to him, Chief Udenwa secured the senatorial ticket for himself while the House of Representatives and House of Assembly tickets were given to two of his kinsmen.

He further alleged that the current development suggests that Chief Udenwa and his political associates are more interested in advancing their personal ambitions than in building a broad-based political movement capable of delivering electoral victory.

“With the current development, it is obvious that Chief Udenwa and his cohorts are not interested in ensuring Peter Obi’s victory at the polls but are instead pursuing their personal interests and unbridled ambitions at the expense of the people,” Ngoka said.

He warned that the forum would, at the appropriate time, officially blacklist the NDC and its leaders in Orlu Local Government Area unless the alleged imbalance is addressed.

Ngoka also questioned the emergence of another claimant to the Orlu State Constituency ticket, alleging that although Chinaka Okehi won the party’s primary election, another individual identified as Okafor later laid claim to the ticket.

According to him, the controversy has raised concerns about the party’s internal processes and has fueled speculation over the credibility of its candidate selection process.

He argued that, beyond supporting Peter Obi’s presidential ambition, the party’s leadership should thoroughly scrutinise candidates seeking elective offices to prevent internal conflicts and safeguard public confidence in the party.
