The ongoing construction, rehabilitation and reclamation of the erosion ravaged landscape along the Orlu-Akokwa-Uga axis have been duly completed and ready for commissioning.

The state Ministry of works disclosed this in a statement it issued recently and made available to the press.

According to the statement, “the only outstanding section is the bridge corridor, where critical engineering solutions are being deployed. These include channeling of water flow, embankment protection, recovery of the bridge environment and other ancillary structural works necessary to guarantee the long-term durability, safety, and sustainability of the infrastructure.

The project has been successfully completed up to the Imo–Anambra boundary, thereby restoring seamless connectivity between both states and significantly improving ease of movement for commuters, residents, and businesses along the corridor”.

It also recalled that the 19.6 kilometer road had over the years been in a terrible and impassable condition as a result of pronounced gully erosion that not only impeded transportation and economic activities in the affected communities but also had grave negative consequences on the people.

“However, the timely intervention of His Excellency, Sen.Hope Uzodimma, CON, has transformed the road from a major challenge into a shining example of responsive governance and infrastructural transformation. Today, the road stands as a clear testament to the administration’s unwavering commitment to sustainable development and improved road infrastructure across the state.

When opened the link bridge, the Orie Akokwa-Uga Road will serve as a critical economic corridor, fostering commerce, enhancing inter-state connectivity, and improving the socio-economic well-being of the people.”
