The Principal of Ben C. Ogbamgba Attorney & Solicitors (Immunity Chambers), Barr. Ben C. Ogbamgba, has urged Nigerian Law School externship students to uphold integrity, diligence and professionalism as they prepare to join the legal profession.
Barr. Ogbamgba gave the charge during a farewell ceremony marking the successful completion of a five-week externship programme by Nigerian Law School students attached to the law firm in Abuja.
Addressing the gathering recently, he congratulated the students for successfully completing the practical training, describing them as bright and promising future lawyers who demonstrated commitment, punctuality, discipline and respect throughout their stay at the chambers.
He noted that although the students arrived at the firm seeking practical legal experience, they quickly became part of the professional family of Immunity Chambers through their dedication and willingness to learn.
Barr. Ogbamgba emphasized that the legal profession is built not only on sound knowledge of the law but also on character, integrity, humility, discipline and service. According to him, the externship programme was designed to expose the students to the realities of legal practice, including client management, ethical responsibilities, legal research, drafting and the demands of professional practice.
“As you prepare for the Call to the Nigerian Bar, let honesty be your shield, diligence your companion and integrity your lifelong asset. Never compromise your professional ethics for temporary gain,” he advised.
He further encouraged the aspiring lawyers to remain focused, stressing that the legal profession is dynamic and requires continuous learning, mentorship and professional development.
Responding to his farewell speach, the leader of the externs, Justice Tamuno who spoke onbehalf of his Colleaques commended and expressed their profound gratitude to the Principal Attorney and his team of erudite lawyers for their mentorship, guidance and direction all through the period of their externship in the high profile and still organized law office that made their time there worthwhile.
He commended the Principal Attorney Ben Ogbamgbe, who they described as a seasoned lawyer and experienced manager of men and resources and his staff for their patience, humility and tolerance capacity that not only made them comfortable but also provided them with a conducive learning environment.
The event concluded with prayers for the students’ successful Call to the Bar and fulfilling careers dedicated to excellence, fairness, courage and service to humanity.
