The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has dismissed allegations that its National Leader, Distinguished Senator Seriake Dickson, is secretly working with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to undermine the party’s presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, and his running mate, Dr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
In a statement issued by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, Esq., the NDC described the allegations as “malicious lies” and an attempt by political opponents to tarnish the reputation of the former Bayelsa State governor.
The party said Senator Dickson “is not a front for the ruling APC or anyone else” and has no secret or open arrangement with the APC.
According to the statement, Senator Dickson’s public service record and his decision to remain with the NDC, rather than defect to the APC, demonstrate his commitment to the opposition party and its presidential ticket.
The NDC noted that Dickson could have “taken the easy way out” by joining the APC but instead chose what it described as the more difficult path of building a political party committed to liberating Nigerians from what it called the “vice grip” of those currently in power.
The party further cited Senator Dickson’s consistent positions on national issues during his years in the Senate, describing them as evidence of his “strength of character” and solidarity with Nigerians.
The NDC accused unnamed political opponents of circulating the allegations out of fear of the party’s growing popularity and acceptance across the country.
“Consequently, it is wicked, vexatious and mendacious to associate his name with any compromise with the ruling APC and its key drivers,” the statement said.
The party urged its supporters, members and well-wishers to remain steadfast and intensify their efforts towards victory for Peter Obi, Rabiu Kwankwaso and other candidates contesting under the NDC platform.
The statement ended with the party’s declaration: “Together, we stand. Together, we shall win. A New Nigeria is Possible. We can do it!”
