Despite what many have described as deceptive propaganda by the Imo State government and its spokespersons, the frightening level of insecurity and attendant loss of innocent lives have continued unabated.
Saturday, August 23, 2025 was a very sad day for the residents of Ezinachi community in Okigwe Local Government Area as dare devil gunmen invaded the community and murdered Mr Emeka Ezeagwula, his wife, Blessing and three others namely, Ejike Otuonye, Chidi Chineke and a member of the local vigilante group whose name was not mentioned as at time of filing this report in cold blood.
Chief Emeka Ihedioha, in an emotion laden press statement he issued said, “This massacre is not just a statistic. These were fathers, mothers, sons, daughters, and defenders of their community. Their blood cries out against the collapse of security, the erosion of human dignity, and the indifference that continues to embolden evil in our land.
I stand in deep mourning with the families of the victims, the Ezinachi community, and the entire Okigwe zone. Their pain is our collective pain. Their loss is an assault on all of us as a people.
At moments like this, we are reminded that the first duty of government is the protection of life. Any failure in this sacred duty is a grievous abdication of responsibility. I therefore call on the security agencies of government to rise to their constitutional mandate – to not only apprehend the perpetrators of this heinous crime but also to implement concrete measures that will prevent further bloodshed in our communities.
Our people deserve to live in peace, to till their lands without fear, and to sleep at night without the dread of gunfire. We cannot normalize tragedy. We cannot accept insecurity as fate.
May the souls of the departed find rest, and may God grant comfort to the grieving families”.
