Heads of Ministries, departments and agencies of Imo State Government have been charged on efficiency in order to ensure that their 2026 budget estimate conform with the ten years development plan of the state.

The urge was made by the Commissioner for Finance and Coordinating Economy, Chuck Chukwuemeka, during the Ministry’s 2026 Budget Bilateral Discussion involving the Ministry of Budget, Economic Planning and Statistics, held on Tuesday, at the Ministry’s Conference Hall.

The Commissioner explained that, at the inception of the 3R administration,  government identified the necessary things that need to be done within ten years and each year, government figures out how much of those projects the economy of Imo State can carry and include them in the budget.

Chukwuemeka said that “what the Governor did with the 2025 budget in terms of the capital projects that are transforming Imo State makes the 2026 budget preparation easier to the extent that where such capital projects were not finished, MDAs will find out how much is left for completion and include that in the 2026 budget”.

He explained that the Ministry of Finance cut down redundant and unnecessary items that are not in tune with government priorities, leaving a minimum amount of overhead and recurrent expenditure so that enough is given for the capital expenditure, advocating that “Commissioners and Heads of other MDAs should consider it very important to attend in person and be part of their budget preparation process to ensure that everyone, the citizen and the people running it are involved”.

Also speaking, the Commissioner for Budget, Economic Planning and Statistics, Hon. Anslem Anyanwu, said the meeting was germane, noting that the two Ministries share many things in common, hence the record of huge success, expressing happiness that the Commissioner for Finance and Accountant General of the State appeared in person to defend their budget.

Earlier, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Budget, Economic Planning and Statistics, Prince Chibuzor Obinna, hinted that their job as the Budget Committee is to collect, collete and articulate budget for the Governor’s adoption.

Chibuzo said he is very confident that the Ministry of Finance and Coordinating Economy has duly followed the guidelines, making it easier for budget preparation.

With the Permanent Secretary/Accountant General of the State, Dr. Linus Okafor, describing the budget estimate of the Ministry of Finance and Coordinating Economy as realistic, affirming that it is in line with the development plan of the state.
