Imo is taking a bold step into the digital future as the State Digital Literacy for Secondary Schools Bill, 2025 – conceived by Prada Uzodimma and fully supported by the administration of His Excellency, Dist. Senator Hope Uzodimma, Governor of Imo State – has successfully passed its second reading at the House of Assembly.

The bill, sponsored by Hon. Chidozie Nwaneri, Chief Whip of the House and Member representing Oru East State Constituency, seeks to institutionalize digital learning by establishing a Digital Literacy Board to oversee and coordinate technology integration across secondary schools in the State.

Governor Uzodimma’s leadership under the 3R Government (Rehabilitation, Reconstruction and Recovery) continues to demonstrate a deep commitment to youth empowerment through education and innovation.

His administration’s agenda aligns with the Renewed Hope vision, which prioritizes digital inclusion, skill development and equitable access to technology-driven education.

Speaking on the development, Prada Uzodimma, who conceptualized the bill, described the Governor as “a transformational leader whose foresight has placed education and digital empowerment at the heart of governance.”

She noted that the bill would bridge the rural-urban digital divide and ensure that both teachers and students acquire the skills needed to thrive in a technology-driven world.

“Governor Hope Uzodimma’s support for this bill reinforces his position as one of Nigeria’s most education-driven and forward-thinking leaders. Through this initiative, he is investing not just in classrooms, but in the future of every Imo child.”, Uzodimma said.

In his remarks, Hon. Chidozie Nwaneri, the bill’s sponsor, commended the Governor for his unwavering dedication to educational advancement and legislative collaboration that empowers young people.

“This bill is a testament to the Governor’s vision of modernizing education across Imo State. His Excellency has continued to demonstrate that digital empowerment is not a privilege but a right for every student. With his support, Imo will continue to lead in innovation, education, and youth development.”, the lawmaker maintained.

Also speaking, the Imo State Commissioner for Education, Prof. Bernard Thompson Ikegwuoha, hailed the bill’s progress as “a strategic and transformative milestone” in the state’s education reform efforts.

“Digital literacy is now the language of the modern classroom,” Prof. Ikegwuoha said. “Under Governor Hope Uzodimma’s leadership, Imo State is not only improving access to education but redefining it. The establishment of a Digital Literacy Board will enhance teacher training, expand digital infrastructure, and ensure that our students are globally competitive”, he added.

Beyond this legislative milestone, the Uzodimma administration has continued to invest in school rehabilitation, teacher development and ICT-driven programs that align with the 3R Government’s vision of rebuilding intellect and opportunity across the state.

Prada Uzodimma, who has long championed education reform through initiatives such as the Prada Uzodimma Imo Indigene Law Scholarship Grant (PUIISG) and the #DearTeacher Campaign, affirmed that the bill complements the Governor’s broader Renewed Hope Agenda for education and digital inclusion.

“Under the 3R Government, Imo is redefining what public education can achieve,” she stated. “This digital literacy bill is not just legislation – it is legacy. It represents progress, possibility and the promise of a brighter future for every Imolite”, she posited.
