What could have turned into an embarrassing situation was averted at Government House, Owerri, on Thursday, as security operatives prevented the planned arrest of an APC chieftain.

This reporter learnt that during a stakeholders’ meeting, an elected lawmaker from the state allegedly brought security operatives to arrest a party chieftain.

The move was strongly resisted despite efforts by the operatives to take the suspect away.

However, the intervention of the governor’s security aides stopped the arrest.

The incident caused tension and uproar within Government House, leaving many attendees frightened.

It was further gathered that the action angered government officials and APC members, who condemned the attempt, insisting that proper invitations and procedures should have been followed before any arrest could be made within Government House.

Sources said the incident may not be unconnected with political disagreements in the local government area of the persons involved, as political activities intensify.
