-Accuse Govt Of Complacency
The people of Eziobodo, Ihiagwa, and other adjoining communities in Owerri West Local Government Area of Imo State, especially the youths, yesterday took to the streets to protest and draw attention to the rampant killings in and around their communities by suspected Fulani herdsmen, who reportedly kill, maim, and abduct residents for ransom.
One of the protesting youths, who simply identified himself as Ogidi, told this reporter that:“As it is now, our wives, mothers, and other relatives can no longer go to their farms or move about freely as a result of the vicious attacks and attendant killings in our communities.
“Unfortunately, the government and its security apparatus have remained complacent and have abandoned the people they are supposed to protect to their pitiable fate.
“A few days ago, they invaded Eziobodo community and killed several people. As if that was not enough, there are reports that the hoodlums have currently taken over some parts of Ihiagwa and other neighbouring communities.
“We are therefore protesting so that the world can hear our lamentations since the Imo State Government and the military barracks at Obinze, which is very close to the Federal University of Technology Owerri (FUTO), have remained silent and unconcerned.
“It is our fervent prayer that all those who are directly or indirectly instrumental to this ugly situation be apprehended and held accountable for their reprehensible actions.”
