-Demand Refund Of Money Paid For Demolished Shops
Imo traders at Eke Ukwu Owerri, who are now the latest victims of shop demolitions in the state, have cried out to the Governor of Imo State, Senator Hope Uzodinma, urging him to intervene and save them from further hardship.
The traders maintained that they paid for shops at Eke Ukwu Owerri and were issued valid documents by Amanda integrated Services. They said they are at a loss as to why, despite dealing with a government-recognized agent, they are now being treated as illegal shop owners.
Their frustration stems from the demolition of the shopping plaza located along Douglas Road without any explanation whatsoever.
Speaking with one of the victims, who simply identified himself as Mr. Oluoha, he said:“We paid for our shops and were issued documents for them by Amanda. It is sad that since the government demolished the shops, the Managing Director of Amanda General Services, Mr. Obinna Obiekweihe, has yet to address us on how we will be refunded or compensated for the loss of our businesses.”
When asked whether any attempt had been made to reach the Managing Director, the traders said Mr. Obinna had hardly taken their calls.
“We have reached out to him, but he hardly picks his calls. This, for us, is the height of wickedness considering what we are going through since the demolition of the shops,” they lamented.
Recall that the Imo State Government, through its agent, last week demolished the shopping plaza at Eke Ukwu Owerri, leaving traders stranded.
It was revealed that the project contract was awarded to Amanda General Services, a company said to be handling some projects for the Imo State Government.
When contacted on phone, the contractor handling the project, Mr. Chinonso Akwake, confirmed the development, adding that he is also a victim. He said every measure required to regularize the contract was duly followed.
He pleaded with Amanda General Services to resolve the issues with the traders, stressing that he is only a middleman and should not be subjected to such truma associated with several calls he receive from the traders..
When contacted, Mr. Obinna claimed he was busy at the time of the call but promised to call back. However, as of the time of filing this report, he had yet to do so.
