-Say Uzodinma Paving Way For His Senate Presidency Ambition
-Hates Competition
Following the outcome of the All Progressives Congress (APC) primaries, some prominent political figures in Okigwe Zone have expressed mixed feelings over the denial of return tickets to Hon. Chike Okafor, Hon. Miriam Onuoha, and other multiple-term aspirants.
Some stakeholders who spoke to this reporter on condition of anonymity stated that the governor’s remarks to lawmakers prior to the primaries lacked sincerity.
According to them, the only known reason the governor wanted all ranking members from Imo State and the entire South-East to step aside was to create room for his alleged Senate Presidency ambition, contrary to his claim that the move was intended to uphold the charter of equity.
An APC stalwart in Okigwe Zone, who identified himself simply as Chief Augustine Nwachukwu, stated:“Governor Uzodinma, who claims to be respecting the charter of equity, is contesting for the Senate after serving two consecutive terms as governor.
In the same vein, Miriam Onuoha and Chike Okafor sought third and fourth terms respectively. Is the governor then suggesting that other clans and local government areas in Orlu Zone do not deserve representation?”
Nwachukwu further noted that other APC stakeholders from Orlu Zone who were denied the opportunity are deeply embittered.
“Since the return of democratic governance in 1999, the Senate seat has rotated among various local government areas, including Oru West (Osita Izunaso), Oguta (Arthur Nzeribe), and Ideato South, among others.
“If the governor genuinely supports equity, why is he seeking another elective position after spending eight consecutive years in office?”
Nwachukwu described the governor’s justification as deceptive, adding:
“If not for his Senate Presidency ambition, why is he so determined to frustrate Senator Ifeanyi Ararume’s ambition? It is obvious that Governor Uzodinma is doing everything possible to stop Senator Ararume from either contesting or emerging as the senator representing Okigwe Zone in 2027.”
Note: The sentence listing past holders of the Senate seat contains an incomplete entry for Ideato South. You may want to supply the missing name before publication.
