• Says, Council Overdue For Dissolution

A group known as Owerri Zonal Patriots,OZP have written Governor Hope Uzodinma over the continued stay of HRM, Eze Dr Emmanuel Okeke of Amaifeke autonomous community in Orlu Local Government Area, as Chairman, Imo State Council of Traditional Rulers.

The group, in a letter dated June 7, 2026, averred that Imo people are surprised that the governor who is known for amplifing his zero tolerance for tenure elongation in all guises has kept quiet all this while amid such abnormality.

They called on the governor to, as a matter of urgency dissolve the council and constitute another one. The release signed by Dr Clifford Emejuobi as Chairman and Fredrick Nwankwo as Secretary insisted that there is no rationale for the current Council of traditional rulers in Imo State to be in office uptill date.

According to the group, “when Governor Uzodinma assumed office, he amended the law that was promulgated by the Rochas Okorocha administration in 2016 with which he changed the name to Imo State Council of Traditional Institution and Community Policing. Uptill this moment, that law that pegged the tenure of the Chairman at 2 years has been rendered moribund.

The law provides that after 2 years, there will be an election for the emergence of a new executive. But regrettably there has neither been election nor renewal for over six years now. The development has become worrisome because if another governor emerges, he may be tempted to appoint his friend or associate and allow him to perpetuate himself in office thereby encouraging nepotism”. They called on the governor to dissolve and reconstitute the Council of Ndi Eze with a view to making it as viable as it was during Eze Cletus IIomuaya and Sam Ohiri’s tenures.
