–       Says, Govt Will Intervene Soon

Sequel to a recent visit by the fans and supporters of human rights activist and social media influencer,  Martin Vincent Otse popularly known as Very Dark Man (VDM) to the School of the Deaf and Dumb, Ofekata Orodo, in Mbaitoli Local Government Area, the Commissioner for Primary and Secondary Education in the state, Prof BTO Ikegwuoha, has finally opened about the utterly dilapidated state of infrastructure in public secondary schools in the state.

According to a source, “from his statement, it could be deduced that students have for a long time been exposed to all kinds of hazards. Rather than think outside the box on how to address the issue, he is allegedly more interested in banning parties, harassing, taunting and witch hunting school  principals.

The Commissioner, in a statement he personally signed and made available to newsmen stated that, “Preliminary findings show that a portion of the school’s perimeter fence was compromised. This created access for miscreants into the premises.

It must be stated with all sense of responsibility that the Principal of the school did not notify the Executive Secretary of the Secondary Education Management Board, SEMB, and by implication, the Honourable Commissioner for Primary and Secondary Education, that the fence had been breached. Even when the crisis unfolded, and till date, the Ministry has not received any official communication from the Principal. However, at this time, our major target is not to apportion blame. Our immediate focus is to find everlasting solutions to the matter and protect the children”.

Reacting to the Commissioner’s above statement, some Imolites who spoke on the condition of anonymity expressed dismay that students with such pronounced levels of disability were allowed to stay in an environment with flawed and compromised security measures until Very Dark Man’s fans and supporters came on a fact finding visit.

This, they said gives credence to reports of insensitivity, neglect and lack of focus and leadership acumen against the Uzodinma APC-led administration in the state.
