– Pass Vote Of Confidence On PG Oscar Okorie

OHIA MBIERI, MBAITOLI LGA – There was jubilation in Ohohia Community, Mbaitoli Local Government Area of Imo State, as residents celebrated the restoration of electricity to the area after months of blackout.

The celebration followed months of consultations and engagements reportedly led by the President-General of the Ohohia General Assembly (OGA), Chief Oscar Angus Okorie, with the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) and the Imo State Electricity Regulatory Commission.

Speaking during the celebration, some residents commended Chief Okorie for his efforts, describing the restoration of power as a major achievement. They also dismissed what they described as earlier reports that did not accurately reflect the circumstances surrounding the electricity challenge.

One resident said: “We were in darkness, but our PG never gave up on us. Today we have light because Chief Oscar Okorie stood for us. He is a man of integrity with zero tolerance for extortion and shady practices.”

Youths, women and elders who gathered for the celebration described the restoration of electricity as a landmark achievement and unanimously passed a vote of confidence on Chief Okorie, praising his leadership style and commitment to community development.

The development comes amid continued support for the OGA leadership. At an emergency general meeting held on June 16, 2026, attended by more than 50 members representing the six villages in Ohohia, the General Assembly reaffirmed its confidence in the elected executive led by Chief Okorie.

The Assembly also rejected a purported notice of indefinite suspension of the executive allegedly issued by Chief Samuel Amahuo and Mr Arihiakama Onyedikachi on behalf of the Ohohia Council of Village Heads, describing the action as unconstitutional.

Similarly, Ohohia indigenes in the diaspora, in a communiqué issued on June 21, 2026, reaffirmed their confidence in the OGA Executive and commended HRM Eze E.C. Okeke, CFR, Eze Imo, for his intervention, which they said helped restore order and due process in Obi-Mbieri Autonomous Community.

The diaspora body also resolved to constitute a high-level delegation to visit HRH Eze Josiah Osuji, Eze Obi-Mbieri, to seek royal counsel and reaffirm its commitment to peace, unity and constitutional governance in Ohohia.

The Ohohia Ministers’ Forum also condemned what it described as an attempt to impose an interim leadership on the General Assembly without due process.

In a statement signed by Rev. Promise C. Abika, the Forum pledged its support for the democratically elected leadership and urged all parties involved in the dispute to embrace peace and work together for the progress of the community.

“As ministers of the Gospel, we stand for peace and unity. We support any leadership that emerges through a credible democratic process in Ohohia,” the Forum stated.

Community leaders also appealed to the EEDC and the Imo State Electricity Regulatory Commission to sustain the improved power supply while continuing to collaborate with the community leadership to promote development.
