- As APC Inaugurates Presidential Campaign Council
What may be described as a dramatic turn of events in respect of the cold war between the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Nyesom Wike, the Senate President Godswill Akpabio, and the Governor of Imo State Hope Uzodinma, played out yesterday during the inauguration of the APC Presidential Campaign Council at the Eagle Square Abuja, on Wednesday.
According to eyewitness account, Wike who doesn’t hide his misgivings publicly refused to have a handshake with Uzodinma who was seated close to President Tinubu. As if that was not enough, when given the microphone to speak, Wike made reference to some governors who claim that the APC won election in 2023 but did not win in their states.
“Those governors who claim to have political structures in their states should endeavour to deliver the APC in their respective states in 2027”.
Most political pundits interpreted Wike’s statement as a subtle jab at Uzodinma, who in 2023 delivered three national Assembly members in Okigwe and Orlu zones but failed to secure victory for Tinubu in the presidential election in Imo State.
In the same vein, when given the microphone to speak, the Senate President Godswill Akpabio, said, those eyeing his position should first deliver on their mandate before aspiring to become Senate President instead of abandoning their people. “One cannot be a governor and at the same time be eyeing the seat of Senate President.”
The irony of it all is that this happened barely a few days after a viral video alleged that the Imo State governor was shut out of the Presidential villa. Though the governor’s loyalists described that as false and mischievous yet, the report has continued to gather momentum.
Meanwhile, keen observers of the political landscape are keeping a close tab on unfolding developments with a view to putting issues in proper perspective.
