Contrary to what used to be observed of the Rector of Imo State Polytechnic, Umuagwo, as characterized by highhandedness, total disregard to rule of law, intimidation and contract racketeering, the institution is back to its glorious past.

This is according to our reporter who visited the main campus of the Institution at Umuagwo on a fact finding mission. The staff of the institution were full of praises for the new Rector, Dr P.N Njoku, who they described as a team player and man of integrity.

“We never had any doubt that the Rector will perform creditably considering his past record which endeared us to him.

We can now breathe fresh air. The Rector has begun to right the wrongs of his predecessor which is highly commendable at a time like this”, a lecturer who doesn’t want his name in print, revealed.

It was also gathered that the new rector has made real his promise that he was going to carry every staff along, irrespective of the role such person(s) played during the crisis that rocked the school in the past.

Some of the students who spoke to our reporter expressed excitement that at last peace has returned to the school with lecturers showing commitment to work without fear of victimization or threat.

It would be recalled that the past administration under the catholic priest, Rev. Dr. Wence Madu, the institution had severally gone on strike over the refusal of the rector to vacate office even after his tenure had elapsed.

A section of the media had severally revealed that the Rector was doing everything to perpetuate himself in the office while disregarding the extent law establishing the Institution.

It took the pronouncement on the establishment of a new University of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences for Wence Madu, to transmoglorify into the Pro-Chancelor and Chairman of Governing Council. Even when the Ex-Governor, Okorocha made a volte face following series of protests by students, lecturers and host community, Wence Madu refused to leave.
