The recent defection of the two term senator for Imo West senatorial zone, Senator Hope Uzodinma from the Peoples Democratic Party to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), has generated a lot of ripples in Imo political arena as the Governor of the state has denied knowledge of his membership which the distinguished senator claimed he had joined three months ago, while that is on, his teeming supporters seem stranded not knowing what line to toe.
In a press statement issued in Owerri three days after the defection publicized in Abuja, and Owerri, Okorocha claimed that the distinguished senator was only trying to sneak into the party through the window stating those who maligned, castigated and humiliated him when he joined the APC merger in 2014 are now coming in from the top instead of starting from the ward level.
Senator Uzodinma in a reaction while addressing journalists revealed that it was no secret that he joined the APC three months ago and that his name would be found in the LGA register which the Governor had earlier collected from his ward Chairman stating that he was not ready to join issues with Rochas as he did not join the party to forment troubles.
He described political party as a vehicle that conveys politicians as passengers and that when one vehicles breaks down the passenger (politician) joins another one to reach his destination alluding to the internal crisis that rocked the Peoples Democratic Party.
To affirm that he defected to the APC long ago, the Senator stated that he was in the entourage of the former PDP National Chairman Ali Modu Sheriff when he latter declared for the APC and it was in that event that he collected a copy of the APC constitution he which read before joining the party, hence it was not in secret.
However following the recent publication of his defection, majority of his grassroot supporters from Orlu and other zones in the state are stranded claiming they were not carried along while few stated that it means the senator has been double dealing or engaging in anti party activities.
Some of the members who spoke to our correspondent on condition of anonymity stated “this is why politicians cannot be trusted”, while few others retorted “we know Hope Uzodinma, we shall swim or sink with him wherever he is, we shall follow”.
