The people of Isu clan, one of the two component units that make up Orlu LGA have indicated interest in producing the next legislator for Orlu/Oru East/Orsu Federal constituency, which they said has eluded them for so long.
The President General of Oganihu Isu, the apex socio cultural umbrella organization of Isu clan, Chief Dr. Emma Ebere, the Traditional Prime minister of Umuowa Ancient Kingdom, made this assertion, while addressing journalists, immediately after a meeting of the organization held at Isu over the weekend. The renowned pharmacist said they are really worried because the Isu clan has been marginalized for so long. He said that it took Isu almost 12 years to produce a member for the Orlu state constituency seat. According to him, “we had to reach an understanding with Orsu people before our son, Marcel Odunze emerged a legislator for Orlu. We agreed that no Orsu indigene will contest to be chairman if one is already a legislator and vice versa and it will only be for one unrenewable tenure, except the person emerged by appointment.
He regretted that the national assembly seats of the area have always revolved between Orsu and Oru East, to the detriment of Isu clan “we have had it so bad. Hope Uzodimma from Oru East has been Senator for Orlu senatorial zone for almost 8 years. Orsu has been in the federal House of Representatives for more than 12 years, through their sons, Chief Major Eze and Jeff Ojinika. We cannot remember when an Isu son held that position”.
The Traditional Prime Minister, urged all political parties to, as a matter of urgency, “ensure they present candidates from Isu, if they really desire the votes of our people because, we strongly feel it is our turn to produce the next legislator for Orlu/Oru East/ Orsu Federal constituency, in the spirit of fairness, justice and equity”.
Responding to a question, he said, there are lots of credible, dependable, experienced and well educated candidates from Isu clan who are not only passionate about the development of Isu but that of the entire federal constituency. “Isu clan has people who will perform excellently if given the opportunity.
I will not mention names now, because of my position but when the time comes, maybe after the primaries, we will screen all the candidates and then take a stand. All we are saying now, is that the slot should be zoned to Orlu and precisely the Isu clan”.
