The Imo State House of Assembly, Owerri, at an emergency plenary sitting on Monday June 3, 2019, took wide ranging decisions that aimed at rubbishing the immediate past administration of Owelle Rochas Okorocha, to which they were major partakers accomplices and stakeholders.

They have by so doing distanced themselves from what they described as despicable acts of Okorocha’s Rescue Mission administration.

Like the Traditional Ruler Council under, HRM Eze Samuel Ohiri, the new leadership of the Imo State House of Assembly has since the exit of emperor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha, who they feared and worshipped for eight years, made a volte face by stridently overriding and reversing decisions hastily made and confirmed by the ex-governor.

Among the several decisions and resolutions adopted at the plenary presided over by Hon. Chinedu Offor, as substantive speaker, include the immediate suspension of elected Council Chairmen, Councilors, Nullification of all Board Appointments, Recruitments, Promotions and Inauguration of new Permanent Secretaries, Head of Service (HoS) and Accountant General, of the state.

Others are reversal and annulment of the establishment of new universities, polytechnics and re-constitution of their Governing Councils.

Reading out the resolutions on the floor of the heavily policed House of Assembly complex, yesterday, Hon. Chinedu Offor whose initial attempt at assuming the speakership position suffered temporary set backs, explained that every pronouncement, action, utterance and financial transaction, contracts etc, entered into or negotiated by the ex-governor, immediately after the governorship and House of Assembly elections, stands nullified, void, and of no effect.

His actions however attracted protests from the elected Councilors from the over 640 autonomous communities in the state.

Alerted of the impending threat to their continued stay in office, the councilors mobilized thousand of street urchins, miscreants and hoodlums to attack and disrupt the sitting of the House of Assembly which took them unawares, since plenary is usually on Tuesday.

However the mob and protesters met their match when security operative including a reinforcement from the State CID, Owerri launched an attack and ambushed them frontally while tear-gasing them to run for cover and their dear lives.
