– Seeks Military Support On Safety
Less than 48 hours after his portfolio as Special Adviser (SA) on Public Safety to the Governor of Imo State was confirmed,Rt Hon Ugochukwu Nzekwe, has hit the ground running in attempts to explore all avenues and vistas of opportunity that will engender enduring security of lives and property of Imo citizens.
His first port of call was an official visit to the Brigade Commander, 34 Field Artilary Brigade (FAB) Obinze, Brigadier General Y.I Takura. Their discussions were quite fruitful, hinging on the overall need to foster harmonious relations between the military, the state government and Imo citizens.
Addressing the Commander, Rt Hon Prince Ugochukwu Nzekew appreciated the role the Army is currently playing in the battle against terrorism especially in the North East. He mentioned in particular, how the military coalition rose to the occasion and tackled the insecurity occasioned by the Boko Haram insurgency and herdsmen killings and nipped that in the bud, to enable government and business activities resume in the North East.
He was also full of praises for the Army for their role in assisting the government especially in Imo State towards ensuring compliance to all the preventive measures put up against the spread of Covid-19 such as witnessed with the lockdown, sit at home orders and now the dusk to dawn curfew.
Nzekwe also called for similar support and cooperation with the public safety department of Imo State government, so as to realize adequate safety and security of lives of Imo citizens. He assured the military command of the willingness of the state government to extend its shared prosperity benefits to all irrespective of state of origin, hence the need for all hand to be on deck.
In his response, the Brigade Commander, Brig. Gen. Y.I Takura, after commending Prince Nzekwe for finding time to initimate him with the roles of his agency, assured him of all the necessary support, partnership so as to ensure security of lives and properties. e explained that the security of all Imo citizens is paramount to the command and cannot be compromised.
Takura enjoined the Special Adviser to the Governor of Imo State on Public Safety to feel free to approach his command when ever the need arises, especially once he notices any security challenge, breach of public peace or threat that requires their immediate intervention, adding that the gates of the FAB Obinze is open to him at all times.
Prince Nzekwe was accompanied on the visit by a number of Safety Personnel in the state. He also intends to extend similar familiarization visits to the DSS, Police, Naval Command and Air force base in the state all in a bid to ensure that the lives of Imo citizens are given top priority by the shared prosperity government of Senator Hope Uzodinma.
