Adopts Acho Ihim as consensus candidate

A group known as Okigwe Zone Equity Mandate has appealed to the Governor of Imo State as well as other APC stakeholders in and outside the state to consider the overall need for equity and fairness in selecting the next senator for Imo North Senatorial District.

They also decried the continued marginalization and neglect of the two LGAs of Onuimo and Okigwe in the determination or selection of whoever becomes the senator of the zone. It was their contention that since the two LGAs have not produced a senator for the zone for the first time since the new political dispensation that stared in 1999, and prior to this period, the next senator should be conceded to either of them.

This was as contained in a release issued in Owerri Wednesday August, 19 2020 by the group, signed by Chief Victor Ohakwe as president.

In the release, copy of which was made available to Thursday Nigeria Watchdog Newspaper, they called on from other LGAs other than Onuimo and Okigwe LGAs to kindly withdraw as to pave the way for an aspirant from the now marginalized LGAs.

They however threw their support behind the former Speaker of Imo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Acho Ihim, who they observed to have acquired rich wealth of knowledge and indispensable experience in legislation and effective representation as lawmaker and Speaker Imo State House of Assembly.

They went down memory lane to enumerate a detailed breakdown of senators and their LGAs, elected in Okigwe zone since 1979 and pointed out that with Ehime Mbano, Isiala Mbano, Obowo and now Ihitte Uboma benefitting generously, the most reasonable and realistic thing to do is allow Onuimo and Okigwe LGAs to get the next slot through Acho Ihim or any other aspirant from the area who shows impressive records and profile to the governor and stakeholders.

It is their wish that the recently inaugurated committee considers consensus candidate that will ensure peace and harmony in the zone and become a rallying point for Okigwe leaders. This quality they found in Acho Ihim.
