–      Says; supporting Iroko was a treaty with conscience

–      Congratulates new EXCO, Onyewuchi led Committee

The former Special Adviser (SA) to erstwhile Governor of Imo State, Rt Hon Emeka Ihedioha and former Director of Imo PDP New Media, Hon AIC Akwarandu has congratulated the newly elected party executives, who emerged at the end of the State Congress last Saturday.

Akwarandu who spoke to journalists shortly after the inauguration of the State Executive Committee members yesterday, described the election that saw to their victories as credible, and thanked the Congress Organizing Committee, led by Senator Ezenwa Onyewuchi, who is currently representing Owerri zone at the red chambers of the National Assembly.

He also used the opportunity to appreciate the role of Rt. Hon Emeka Ihedioha who he said has brought glorious days to the party, owing to his selfless disposition and statesman’s roles in deepening internal democracy in Imo State.

He said,“I want to congratulate the People’s Democratic Party, Imo State, on a successful Congress. The PDP has once again exhibited discipline in the internal democracy of its affairs.

I was one of those who championed the cause for my friend and ally, Comrade Nwokeke Emeka (Iroko), to be elected as the State Chairman. I made that decision as a treaty with my conscience. While I commend Iroko for his resilient spirit, Democracy is however about the will of the majority of the people and the majority has carried the day.

I commend our leader, His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha (CON), on the positive leadership direction he has offered to the party. Indeed, he has shown that he is a man with the comprehensive capacity to lead at all levels. No doubt, Ihedioha has propelled the PDP to many glorious days.

Lastly, I give special thanks to the Distinguished Senator Ezenwa Onyewuchi led Central Planning Committee for a job well done. The Onyewuchi CPC has set new records by conducting the most seamless State Congress ever held in recent times.

The PDP on its part has by their collective resolve to chart a new path, exhibited high level of discipline and maturity in its internal democracy by putting its house in order before going to the field. What the PDP did is what every responsible family should do”.

Responding to a question regarding the clamour for paradigm shift, AIC Akwarandu stated that the new leadership which is made up of mainly vibrant leaders will not be found wanting in the area of ideological leadership that will throw up progressives, adding that, PDP remains the only hope of Imo people as evidenced in the short period of time the party was in power. “Today, everyone is crying over insensitive, mindless and irresponsible administration occasioned by APC government”, he stated.

It will be recalled that Imo PDP held a successful congress where new leaders were elected last Saturday August 1, 2020. The congress which took place at the Kanu Nwankwo Stadium Owerri, saw the emergence of Engr Charles Ugwu, a founding member and pioneer Vice Chairman of the party as the State Chairman. Other officers had their nominations ratified.
