Attack in government house, attempt to overthrow Uzodinma-Onyemaechi

As Deputy speaker washes hands of colleague’s ordeal

History was recorded in Owerri, the Imo State capital city when magistrate court 1 refused bail for the lawmaker representing Ohaji/Egbema LGA, State Constituency in the Imo State House of Assembly,Hon.     Hon. Heclus Okoro on self recognition.

The lawmaker who is regarded as a close confidant of erstwhile Speaker of the House of Assembly,Rt. Hon. Dr. Chiji Collins, was said to have gone on an oversight function at ISOPADEC, when his friend, Collins was impeached.

Speaking with Okoro’s media aide, Comrade Isinwa Destiny who confirmed the incident, stated that his principal had  upon returning to his office from ISOPADEC learnt that his friend, Chiji Collns had been impeached and forced to join others at the Government House Owerri to hand over. He had no option than to join them at Douglas House.

When asked if the lawmaker as alleged  attacked anyone leading to the fracas, Isinwa said there was nothing of such.

Meanwhile, during  an interview with the Imo State Deputy speaker, Rt.Hon Amara Iwuanyawu and other lawmakers in Owerri, yesterday Iwuanyawu  denied attacking his colleague,Okoro but insisted that it was the Ohaji Egbema lawmaker that attacked him and other lawmakers in such a gestapo manner.

He said,”We were in Government house to present the new speaker to the governor when Okoro stormed the government  house with thugs and started making trouble but as a lover of peace,I called for calm without knowing that he was out for sinister motive. All effort to calm down the Ohaji Egbema Lawmaker proved abortive.Thereafter, I walked away to see the governor.I was later informed that some of my colleagues were attacked and wounded by Okoro and his thugs.”

The deputy speaker further stated that aside Okoro who was arrested by the police, five others seen with dangerous weapons were also arrested. This he said gives credence to the fact that they came to maim or kill.”

Also speaking,  Hon Kanayo Onyemaechi who is the house committee chairman on lands said he is yet to recover from the shock of the incident. He accused Ohaji Egbema of plotting to overthrow the governor of Imo State, Senator Hope Uzodinma  by his action which he said is treasonable offence that should not be swept under the carpet.

Others who spoke confirming the attack in government house include:Rt.Hon Arthur Egwim, lawmaker representing Ideato State Constituency and   Hon Duru Johnson, house committee chairman on ethics and privilege. They all expressed disappointment over the unruly behaviour of the Ohaji Egbema Lawmaker.
