It has become a tale of one day, one horror story in the State, especially in Orlu and Oru-East LGAs. Oru East incidentally, is the home town of the incumbent governor of Imo State, Senator Hope Uzodinma.
Our reporter who visited the areas and interviewed some of the residents over the weekend disclosed that following the alleged killing of some security operatives, a joint task force of Nigerian security outfits stormed the areas to fish out the perpetrators of the heinous crime leading to a clash between the joint task force and the hoodlums whose identities they said remain unknown.
One of our sources who hails from Umudim Okporo, Orlu that spoke to this reporter on condition of anonymity said that the situation is dicey and everyone in the area is not safe.”I am here to take my children to their maternal home in Anambra state. Every day, we hear gun shots and do not know where to run to for safety”, he revealed.
The development has caused panic as residents of Umutanze, Okporo, Akatta and adjoining communities now sleep with their eyes wildly open.
Before now, some persons have been reportedly shot dead along Orlu/ Ihiala road among whom were Comrade Soludo Akwaeke, the world bank official who hails from Ideato South who was said to have last year, established a rubber company at the Industrial cluster located at Naze, Nekede axis among others.
Just recently an international business man and philanthropist, Chief Valentino Ugbala escaped kidnap by the whiskers while the brother of the Imo state Accountant General was shot dead.
It was gathered that Ugbala had gone to St Joseph Catholic Church Okporo to honour an anniversary invitation when the hoodlums wearing masks and riding motorcycles, entered the church and ordered him out.
