Member representing Ideato North state Constituency and Chief Whip of the Imo State House of Assembly Rt.Hon. Arthur Egwim has expressed concern over the hygienic standard of food items and other consumables displayed in our various markets and called for measures to ensure food safety.

Hon. Egwim stated this on the floor of the house while moving a motion to urge the Governor, Senator Uzodinma to direct the chairman of Imo State Consumer Protection Commission (CPC) and other relevant agencies in the state to ensure adequate monitoring and enlightenment on the hygienic display of consumable food items by food sellers in our markets, abattoirs, and other distribution centres to avoid contamination and attendant health hazards from pathogens and dangerous  chemicals inherent in the in sanitary food items.

Hon. Egwim who sponsored the bill alongside Hon. Uche Ogbuagu of Ikeduru State Constituency, Hon. Kennedy Ibe of Obowu, Hon. Ngozi Obiefule of Isu, Hon. Pascal Ejiofor of Owerri North, Paschal Okolie of Orlu and Hon. Johnson Duru said, “be it resolved by this honourable house, to urge the Governor to direct the chairman of CPC and other supervisory MDAs to organize enlightenment seminars for all the sellers and handlers of consumable food items to improve their services and ensure good health for the good people of Imo State bearing in mind that good health is necessary in the  attainment of socio-economic growth”.
