v   Condemns assassination of Gulak, others

The former senatorial candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) for Owerri zone in the 2019 election and an illustrious son of Egbelu, Obube in Owerri North L.G.A, Chief Mike Nwachukw (Mpi Dike Egbelu, Obube) has bemoaned the escalating wave of insecurity in the state, which he said has culminated in the unwanton killing of security personnel, indiscriminate killing, and arrest of innocent civilians, especial youths, the destruction of public property and other unwholesome acts that are detrimental to our individual and collective interests.

He regretted that the peace and serenity which Imo State was noted for, has become a mirage due to the activities of unknown gunmen and the militarization of Imo State.

Nwachukwu further said, “violence can never be a substitute for peace. This is why it is imperative that the unknown gunmen sheath their swords and follow the path of restraint”.

All over the world, governments at all levels, owe it a responsibility to carter for the security and well being of the governed.

This is why it is necessary that the state government should urgently tackle the root cause(s) of insecurity in the state, by creating job opportunities for thousands of our jobless youths”.

The state government should also focus on ameliorating the economic hardship in the state, which has translated to severe hunger, which now ravages majority of the populace”.

The conspiracy of silence by some of our politicians on this raging matter is not acceptable. It is not the sole priority of the State government to fight insecurity, but the concern of all and sundry, regardless of political leanings or affiliation,  to ensure protection of lives and property. In this regard, all hands must be on deck to tackle insecurity in Imo State before it gets out of hand.

“I call on all stakeholders in the State, political leaders, traditional rulers, the Clergy, not to keep silent or see the unfortunate events of the past few weeks, as an opportunity to take an undeserved swipe on the administration of Dist. Senator Hope Uzodinma, while Imo burns or heads to Golgotha”.
