The Imo State chapter of the Nigeria Union of Journalists has said that it did at no time pass or contemplate passing a vote of confidence on the embattled and controversial Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Declan Emelumba as there is no justifiable reason or basis for that, considering his abysmal and unimpressive score cared since assuming office.
The union made this clarification in a release date Auguest 1,2021, signed by Comrade Precious Nwadike and Austin Okoro, Chairman and Secretary of the Imo NUJ Caretaker Committee, respectively.
The release averred that the council has on several occasions frowned at how the Commissioner has formed the habit of personally drafting releases and press statements for one Chris Akaraonye, a retired photographer and former staff of the state ministry of information to sign on behalf of the council in a desperate attempt to ridicule, castrate and reduce the union to an appendage of his office.
The union further stated that the latest in Emelumba and Akaraonye’s shameful macabre dance is a misleading press release being circulated on the social media purporting that Imo NUJ after deliberation at congress passed a vote of confidence on the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Declan Emelumba who has from all indications, performed below average in all ramifications, demarcated the state government and made more enemies for the state governor instead of mending fences and extending olive branches.
The council called on the general public to ignore, disregard and discountenance with the fake and non existent vote of confidence purportedly passed on Emelumba “as the union will under no circumstance reward a man who has aside polarizing the union, also endorsed the beating and manhandling of many journalists in Imo with an undeserving award of vote of confidence”.
