·        oppose agreement with Benefactor

Sequel to the controversy elicited by the renaming of a dormitory at St. Augustines Grammar School, Nkwerre after an Old Boy of the School and illustrious son of the Local Government , Attorney Nze Daniel Chigbu, in line with the contractual agreement he signed with the Orlu diocese of the Anglican Church, believed by many to be the real owners of the school,  Nze Obinwanne Chinaka who is believed to have spoken the mind of the president  of the old Boys, Prof Ohanuzue and others who are passionately opposed to the name change have described the Church as an Agent or Manager that lacks the capacity to take such decision about the school without the consent and approval of the Old Boys Association which according to them are the real owners of the School.

It would be recalled that Attorney Daniel Chigbu, a United States of America based Attorney who also hails from Nkwerre had spent the sum of #36 million to renovate, furnish and equip a dilapidated dormitory in the School, after reaching agreement with the Orlu Anglican diocese that the Diocese will, thereafter name the Dormitory “Nze Daniel Chigbu Nkwerre House” in recognition of his enormous input which include, provision of 14 modern bathrooms and toilet facilities, 24 hour solar electricity power, double-decked  beds, pillows, mattresses, solar powered water supply for the school that had been without water supply since it was established in 1948, among others.

Nze Obinwanne Chinaka who expressed his  opposition to the renaming of the dormitory after Nze Daniel Chigbu in a release captioned, “Right of reply by Nze Obinwanne Chinaka noted that, Nze Chigbu renovated an existing dormitory and went behind the old boys’ association and against an understanding that no name change to the existing buildings will be entertained, negotiated with the church by way of a defective MoU and changed the name of the building to his own.

Obinwanne in expressing his disappointment against Attorney Chigbu and all those who went into such contract with him,  described the Church as an Agent or Manager who cannot commit an Owner to an action, adding that St.  Augustine’s Grammar School (SAGS) was built 100% by Nkwerre community. The Bishop of Orlu Diocese cannot even commit Anglican Church to any agreement or contract without the approval or the consent of the real owners and other stakeholders who are the Old Boys.

He further stated,”no one can unilaterally name building or any other project after himself and go around looking for who is against him. “When the name change got to the attention of Old Boys Association, Nze Okechukwu Chigbu was reminded that the change was against the understanding reached with the association. That was when he mentioned his MOU with the Bishop, Nze Chigbu said if the Old Boys want to revert to the old name, they should refund him the cost of the renovation.

The Nigeria Watchdog Newspaper had in it’s the front page of Friday January, 14, 2022 edition published a report with with caption, “Ex-Nigerian Envoy to Mali Professor Emeritus in trouble for defacing SAGS’ dormitory” narrated how the president of the school’s Old Boys Association, Prof Ohanuzue, Ex-Nigeria’s  Envoy to Mali, Ken Nwachukwu, Nze Obinwanne Chinaka, Marcus Ohagwa and other Old Boys of the School landed themselves in trouble for allegedly initiating, conspiring, sponsoring and facilitating the defacing of the signpost bearing the new name of the renovated dormitory, at one time, formerly called Nkwerre House.

Our report also disclosed  that in addition to renovating and modernizing the dormitory, Attorney Chigbu,  brought solar-powered water to the school with over-head tanks.  The school had  since it  was established in 1948 been without borehole. He also equipped the dormitory with 24-hour Solar power, modern toilet facilities with modern showers and toilets, and furnished the dormitory with beds, wardrobes, mattresses, pillows, all the way down pillow cases and bedsheets.
